Table constucted by Dan Smith for students to post their asynchronous assignment requirement from class #6 IF THEY WANT TO DO SO (not required to post here!). One thing I think I learned from creating this page and posting here is that some of the table settings are not intuitive if one has experience with MS Excel or tables in Word...can't seem to be able to set column widths in Wikispaces. I think column width is adjusted and balanced based on the amount of text in the largest cells.

Does History Repeat Itself?

Religious Missionaries Influenced World Cultures
Daniel McFarlane

#2 This concept matters because we need to look to the past for we learn not repeat historical tragedies.

#2 It matters because different religions were spread to different corners of the world and still exist today.
Daniel McFarlane

#3 All world populations and nationalities care about not repeating tragic historical events.

#3 This is relevant because many cultures are still effected from the spreading of different religions.
Daniel McFarlane

#4 The interdisciplinary connections are international affairs, politics, foreign policy, international law. English would play a role in looking for literature related to such events.

#4 Global History, foreign affairs. Psychology as well. Understand forced influence on individuals.
Daniel McFarlane

#6 Collaborative Internet research project to look at different historical events and look at current political climate to see if we as a people have learned from history.

#6 Use of digital tools to explore different religions and how they spread throughout history.

Words can be beautiful or ugly.

Are people all good or all bad?

#2 This concept matters because we use words to communicate orally and in print everyday. We need to be aware of how we're using our words to ensure that they are conveying the intended message and that it is an appropriate one.

#2 This concept matters because it encourages students to critically analyze their own character, their peers, and those figures studied in history.

#3 Everybody cares about this when somebody says something profoundly nice or mean to them. It can hurt really bad or make you feel really good.

#3 Everybody should care about this because the inner motivations or nature of those around us can effect us if they decide to act out sinister or benevolent acts towards us.

#4 This concept has to do with education in general. It is a litercay thing but it is also a social thing so it touches every subject.

#4 Although this is a good concept to explore in social studies and possibly ELA, it also has good implications for life.

#6 Conflict mediation settings in which students can reflect on the things they've said and the affects of their comments.

#4 Students could be engaged in a courtroom justice scenario in which they judge whether historical figures studies were all good, all bad, or a little bit of both. Some students would be the jurors, the teacher is the judge, and students would take turns being D.A. and Prosecutor for the different figures on trial.

The understanding of classification

Matter is made up of mass and occupies volume

#2 This concept is important in all courses to develop an innate sense to sort things out.

#2 This concept is important so that student understand on earth that all physical objects consist of some weight.

#3 People classify all sorts of things in the world, starting with groups of people to different species of animals.

#3 People experiment with the different types of matter (solid, liqued, gas, etc) in the world all the time.

#4 Interdisciplinary connections would be science related issues in this instance, however you can classify numbers, history events, word groupings.

#4 Interdisciplinary connections would be in science lessons relating to finding the volume, density, and weight of different objects. This is later used in math to figure out energy.

#6 Using digital tools, they can start classifying subjects by looking up information online about the different types of animals, or whatever it is to be sorted out.

#5 Using digital tools, students could find the different masses of different types of matter and research the different extremes.
